Beleuchter/in ensure the perfect lighting mood on stages and in event venues. You also maintain the technical equipment.

You work in the dark auditorium or on the empty stage. Light is your main tool. You plan, install and programme spotlights, projectors and colour filters. You work with the director and the technical team. Together you create atmospheric moods for theatre, concerts or trade fairs. Your knowledge of optics and electrical installation ensures that every scene is lit exactly right.

What the work feels like

Typical day

You stand in front of the console. You adjust the colour temperature of a spotlight. In the background, the stage is prepared for the next scene. You occasionally climb the scaffolding. You check the cable layout or replace the lamps.

  • You operate and maintain all lighting equipment in the stage and auditorium areas.
  • You work closely with the lighting director and the director.
  • You coordinate with the set design team during rehearsals and performances.
  • You carefully light specific lamp types, spotlights and colour gels.
  • You use projectors correctly and calibrate them.
  • You safely assemble lighting rigs and check the wiring.

Working conditions

You work in theatres, concert halls, exhibition centres or on outdoor stages. Depending on the event, you move between the workshop, the technical room and the stage.
