Typical day
You stand at the cutting table and check fabric rolls for patterns and quality. Then you stretch the upholstery into the frame and ensure a smooth surface.
- You read production plans and create detailed cutting and sewing templates by hand or on the computer.
- You stretch straps over the sofa frame to shape springy seating surfaces.
- You cut filling materials and upholstery fabrics and stack them precisely in the furniture frame.
- You cover the padding with layers of wadding to level out uneven spots.
- You make prototypes before starting series production with machines.
- You constantly check product quality and maintain the production machines.
- You dispose of waste responsibly and supervise the work of production staff.
Working conditions
You work in a team at upholstery factories, either in the office or in the workshop. Your hours are regular and you cooperate closely with designers and interior decorators.
