What the work feels like

Typical day

You stand at the cutting table and check fabric rolls for patterns and quality. Then you stretch the upholstery into the frame and ensure a smooth surface.

  • You read production plans and create detailed cutting and sewing templates by hand or on the computer.
  • You stretch straps over the sofa frame to shape springy seating surfaces.
  • You cut filling materials and upholstery fabrics and stack them precisely in the furniture frame.
  • You cover the padding with layers of wadding to level out uneven spots.
  • You make prototypes before starting series production with machines.
  • You constantly check product quality and maintain the production machines.
  • You dispose of waste responsibly and supervise the work of production staff.

Working conditions

You work in a team at upholstery factories, either in the office or in the workshop. Your hours are regular and you cooperate closely with designers and interior decorators.
