What the work feels like
Typical day
You stand in the workshop in front of a large formwork. You check the exact position of the steel reinforcement using the construction plans. Then you operate the mixing machine. You pour in the concrete and vibrate it firmly. The component keeps its final shape.
- You read construction plans carefully. You prepare all materials for the formwork.
- You assemble stable moulds from wood, steel, or plastic.
- You cut and bend steel bars. You produce the necessary reinforcement.
- You operate computer-controlled machines. You mix the concrete according to exact recipes.
- You pour fresh concrete into the formwork. You compact it carefully.
- You remove the finished parts from the mould. You check them for defects.
- You store the components safely. You load them onto vehicles. You assemble them on site.
Working conditions
You mainly work in the workshops of concrete element factories and artificial stone manufacturers. Occasionally you go to construction sites. You take measurements or assemble finished components there.
