What the work feels like

Typical day

You stand in front of the loom. You check the tension of the warp threads and start the weaving process. While the machine runs, you monitor the colours and adjust the shuttles if needed

  • You design fabric concepts based on customer requests or your own creative ideas
  • You create technical drawings and calculate the required materials
  • You set up the loom and produce colour and quality samples
  • You weave natural and synthetic fibres on manual or computer-assisted looms
  • You treat the finished fabrics by washing, raising the nap, or decating
  • You present your custom pieces in your own shops or at trade fairs

Working conditions

You work in weaving studios, the textile industry, or therapeutic facilities. Occasionally, you also find work in museums to restore antiques
