What the work feels like
Typical day
You stand on the track and check the prepared foundations with the team. Then you spread the ballast and carefully lay the first sleepers for the new track.
- You prepare materials and machines for the construction site.
- You set up barriers and lighting for night work.
- You excavate the subbase and carefully level uneven areas.
- You lay drainage pipes and pour stable foundations.
- You unload track materials and distribute them as instructed.
- You spread angular ballast on the prepared subbase.
- You mount sleepers and rails with the help of cranes.
- You maintain the surroundings and trim bushes on the embankments.
- You keep machines and tools clean after work.
Working conditions
You work outdoors in a team in all weather conditions on track construction sites. Your workplaces are railway facilities of public and private companies, as well as road and track construction firms.
