Typical day

You receive citizens at your desk in the consulate. They submit visa documents or need certifications. At the same time, you coordinate the necessary steps for consular protection during acute emergencies abroad.

  • You look after Swiss citizens regarding visas and civil registry matters.
  • You review naturalisation applications and maintain the relevant registers.
  • You issue official certifications and process diplomatic correspondence.
  • You coordinate consular protection in cases of accidents or arrests.
  • You work in Bern on finance, human resources or political tasks.
  • You maintain close contact with local authorities and partners.

Working conditions

You work primarily in Swiss embassies, consulates general or in the EDA offices in Bern. Your offices are often located in historic buildings or modern administrative sites in Switzerland and abroad.
