What this profession is about

During your apprenticeship, you learn to produce and install sheet metal components for building envelopes.

As a Spenglerpraktiker/in EBA, you oversee the entire sheet metal processing workflow. From the first measurement on the roof to the precise installation on the facade, you work directly on the building envelope. You manufacture components in the workshop and assemble them with your team on site. You combine craftsmanship with technical know-how and directly contribute to the quality and safety of construction projects.

05 · Daily reality

What the work feels like

Typical day

You stand on scaffolding and bend sheet metal exactly according to the drawings. Together with your colleagues, you securely install the finished gutters on the facade.

  • You receive orders from supervisors and plan the necessary work steps.
  • You create sketches of sheet metal elements and calculate the exact material quantities needed.
  • You set up the workspace, erect scaffolding, and check safety conditions.
  • You mark sheet metal, cut it to size, and bend it into the desired shape.
  • You join components by folding, screwing, or soldering, and check the sealing.
  • You load tools and components into the vehicle and transport them to the construction site.
  • You install gutters, window frames, and solar systems on roofs and facades.
  • You recycle waste and keep the workspace clean and tidy at all times.

Working conditions

You work in the workshop and on the construction site, often several meters above the ground on scaffolding. The environment is noisy, weather-dependent, and requires strict safety measures.
